Many people think you need a graphic design software to create a simple Logo for your business or website. This is true if you need to design a very complicated and state of the art vector shape, but many simple and daily use logos or vector shapes can be made in Photoshop. Photoshop has many powerful tools; knowing how to find and use them opens up all sorts of creative possibilities. One of these tools is the Shape tool. In this tutorial I am going to show you how to use Shapes and Type tools to create an eye catching logo in Photoshop.

3- For “Background Contents” select Transparency from the drop down menu.

4- Select the SHAPE tool. By default it is on rectangular shape, click and hold on rectangular and a sub menu opens. Select Custom shape. Photoshop is loaded with a good amount of custom vector shapes. If you can not see all the shapes, click on the GEAR sign to open the menu and select ALL.

5- Select the shape of your choice, select the fill colour and or stroke colour, click on document and drag to create the shape. (By holding down the shift key, you can maintain the proportion of the shape)

8- Because Photoshop created different layers for each step, you can easily select each layer and adjust the position and size of the layer.

9- When you are happy with the result, select all Layers by clicking on top layer and hold down the shift key and click on the bottom layer. Then go to top menu > Layer> Merge. Photoshop will merge all the layers but maintain the transparent background.

10- If you use Photoshop CC, simply drag the photo and drop it to the Library Tab. This function is new in Photoshop CC, and it will add your logo to your Library in Creative Cloud, which makes it available to other applications such as Illustrator.

If you have an older Photoshop version or Photoshop Elements, just go to File> Save As> and then save the document as PNG file. Do not save it as JPG if you wish to keep the background transparent.
