Advanced Photography Workshop

“Zone System,” an Advanced Photography Workshop

Exposure is the most crucial key in photography. Therefore, a better understanding of exposure separates a pro photographer from a beginner. “Chasing Shadows and Highlights” is an advanced photography workshop that covers this vital skill in depth.

Previously, I discussed the power of Raw format, and how the raw file provides more control in post-processing. However, there are several restrictions that a photographer should be aware of them. One of these limitations is “Highlight Clipping.”

What is Highlight Clipping?

Generally speaking, digital cameras are very similar to “Slide Films” regarding capturing the highlights. For instance, if the exposure is not correct, and the highlights are too bright, you are not able to restore the highlight details anymore. You can find more information about highlight clipping here.

Our advanced photography workshop focuses on these issues and provides practical resolutions using the “Zone System.”

For instance, when shooting in a very contrasty scene, what should you consider as your highlight zone and how to set the camera’s light-meter for measuring the exposure, is the central part of this workshop. I also explain how to apply the zone system skill to your post-processing routine to speed up the editing time.
