Five Unconventional Photography Techniques to Spice Up Your Shots

Photography is constantly evolving, with new techniques and trends always emerging.

While there are many well-known techniques that photographers use, there are also a number of unconventional and lesser-known techniques that can help you create truly unique and exciting images. This article will explore five photography techniques you may have never tried before.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”27518″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” title=”Image”][vc_column_text]

  1. Light Painting

Light painting is a technique that involves using a long exposure and a handheld light source to create unique and creative images. To try this technique, find a dark environment with minimal ambient light. Set up your camera on a tripod and choose a long exposure time, anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Then, use a handheld light source to “paint” light onto your subject or the surrounding environment. You can use different colours and shapes to create a variety of effects.

  1. Tilt-Shift Photography

Tilt-shift photography is a technique that can create a miniature effect or a “fake” shallow depth of field. It involves using a special lens that allows you to tilt and shift the plane of focus. This technique can be used to create images that look like miniature models or to create a selective focus effect that draws attention to a specific part of the image. While tilt-shift lenses can be expensive, software programs can also simulate the effect.

  1. Shooting Through a Prism

Shooting through a prism is a simple but effective technique that can create mesmerizing light refractions and distortions in your images. To try this technique, hold a prism in front of your lens and experiment with different angles and positions. You can also use different types of prisms, such as triangular or hexagonal, to create various effects.

  1. Multiple Exposure

Multiple exposure is a technique that involves overlaying various images onto a single frame. This can be done in-camera or in post-processing. To try this technique in-camera, set your camera to multiple exposure modes and take several shots while slightly changing the composition or position of your subject. In post-processing, you can combine multiple images using editing software to create a composite image.

  1. Infrared Photography

Infrared photography is a technique that involves capturing light that is not visible to the human eye. To try this technique, you’ll need a camera that has been modified to capture infrared light or an infrared filter that you can attach to your lens. Infrared photography can create unique and surreal images that have a dreamlike quality. You can experiment with different lighting conditions and landscapes to create various effects.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”12285″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” title=”Tilt Shift Lens”][vc_column_text]
