Canon 5D Mark III

Canon 5D Mark III First Impression – WOW!

We have just added a Canon 5D Mark III and Canon EF 24-105 f4 IS to our rental line up. For quite sometime I have been reading reviews and field tests on Canon 5D Mark III Vs 5D Mark IV, to make the decision. Finally I made my mind to go for Canon 5D mark III, as the file size is perfect for photography, and 5D Mark IV is basically targeting the videographers market.

Why testing a brand new camera and lens

My main concerns were the auto focusing accuracy and light metering, so I started to test the camera for these two issues. All tests are inside my office, as it was raining for the past few days. The camera was set to ISO 6400, Shutter speed at 1/60s and f4 for all these photos. My first impression was WOW! Even at ISO 6400 the photos are very clean and virtually noise free.

Canon 5D Mark III Firmware Update

I just noticed that there is a new Firmware update for Canon 5D Mark III. If you own a Canon 5D Mark III, I strongly suggest to upgrade the Firmware to new version which is “1.3.5”. You can find the Firmware update in Canon website or click the link below.

Light Metering Test

All the metering modes worked very well, specially the Spot metering that previous Canon cameras had a little issue. Evaluative metering was very accurate to maintain the highlights, which is the weakest point in digital photography.

Auto Focusing Test

The new Canon 5D Mark III Crosshair Auto Focusing system is unbelievably accurate. I took this photo at f4 and at 105mm.

Using Single Focusing point to test how accurate the camera and the lens auto focus works

I marked the focusing point and it is razor sharp at the point.

I marked the focused area in this photo

Even when you zoom to 100% view, the focused area is very sharp and the shallow depth of field created a very creamy effect on the foreground and background. Even at f4 I got quite nice Bokeh from the light in the background.

This 100% view shows how precisely Canon 5D MK III and Canon EF 24-105 f4 IS nailed the focus

Conclusion

I am going to test the Canon 5D Mark III and Canon EF 24-105 f4 IS more over the weekend in outdoor activities. For now I am quite impressed with the image quality and performance.

If you are looking to upgrade your old Canon camera, or want to purchase a new one, I strongly suggest to give Canon 5D Mark III a try. I am sure that you will love it.

The good news is we do have the camera and lens in stock for rental. I also created a bundle deal for renting the camera body, lens and an extra battery and save even more. You can rent the bundle for $180.00 per day. Also if you have had any of our classes previously, you can save 10% on rental fee till December 31st, 2017.

That is all for now. Stay tuned for Canon 5D Mark III test result. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for upcoming reviews, tutorials and tips.
