CHRISTMAS PHOTOGRAPHY

Christmas Photography Tip

We all want to take Christmas family photos. This week “Ted’s Photo Tip” is about Christmas Photography.

Christmas Photography can be daunting!

Christmas photography can be a bit overwhelming, especially for new photographers. I hope that these short tips remove some of the worries out.

Using a Flash

Most entry-level to intermediate-level digital cameras have a built-in flash. DO NOT use the built-in flash as it can ruin your picture. Generally speaking, all built-in flashes are so tiny and deliver harsh highlights and shadows.

Why you shouldn’t use a built-in flash, I am glad that you asked.

There are many reasons for not using a built-in flash. For instance, the built-in flash is very close to the camera lens. Therefore, it creates Red-Eye and a hideous shadow behind the subject.

Use an External Flash for Christmas Photography

An external flash provides more distance from the camera lens. You can also bounce the light from an object, such as a ceiling or wall, to soften the light. Therefore, no more red-eye or ugly shadows!

By bouncing the flash to the wall, I created a soft and pleasing highlights and shadows.
