Portrait Photography is the most popular style among amateur and pro photographers. To a successful  portrait photographer, a photographer should follow Principles and Rules of Portraiture photography.

Creating amazing portraitures has a major niche in all sorts of visual arts, including photography. Let’s get started by looking into Portrait Photography definition.

Wikipedia has a complete description of Portrait Photography term, and I picked this part to share:

“Portrait photography or portraiture in photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses. A portrait picture might be artistic, or it might be clinical, as part of a medical study.”

What are the main key features for Portraiture Photography?

According to above definition, a portraiture should showcasing the personality of the subject. That describes why some portraitures are more eye-catching than the others. As a photographer you must consider many different elements to achieve success in portrait photography. In these series of articles I am going to discuss them into two main categories; Technical Aspects and Artistic Approach.

Technical Aspects:

Camera Settings, Lens Selection, and Light are the main technical parts. I am going to discuss in camera settings such as selecting shutter speed, aperture, ISO, how to select a lens for better result. On the other note, Light is the most important part of any kind of photography, I will also cover Natural Light Portrait photography tips, as well as covering the techniques on Flash and Studio settings.

Artistic Approach:

Posing, breaking the ice, communication with models and subjects, composition, etc. are included in Artistic Approach of Portrait Photography. Like other arts, these approaches are just guidelines. Each artist has a unique artistic point of view, but these guidelines can be used as the starting points.
