Digital Photography Bootcamp Lower MainLand

Digital photography Bootcamp Lower Mainland

We are very pleased to announce a full series of Digital Photography workshops as a BOOTCAMP for January 2015!  This bootcamp consists of eight, newly developed, workshops which will help you to build a solid foundation of photography techniques. Each session answers several popular questions in digital photography, and targets key foundational concepts for you to learn.

Digital Photography Bootcamp consists of eight, three-hour sessions on Tuesday nights each week. All sessions include a mix of theory in the classroom, as well as practical instruction. Participants have opportunities for shooting photographs on field trips, as well as reviewing and discussing their images with an instructor.

Session 1:

Introduction to photography, how digital cameras work, digital photography workflow basics, auto focus versus manual focus, digital image optimization.

These may sound very basic, but there are lots of small details which can change your photography workflow and make you ready to take your photography experience to the next level. Details like Shutter speed, aperture value, focusing techniques etc..

Session 2 :

ISO, Understanding camera setting modes and exposure controls, intro to using the Histogram.

Basically your photo has to be exposed correctly. This a solid rule. Now the question becomes: how do I set the correct exposure? Your camera is an electronic device, and does not have a brain. It cannot take into consideration things like mood and overall effect, and cannot predict the look you are going for. In this session, you will learn how to set your camera to different creative modes, why you might use one mode over the other, how to set your ISO or when to use Auto ISO, exposure compensation, and learning Histogram jargon!

Session 3:

Metering methods, reading a Histogram, using manual mode, White Balance.

“Why does my camera take poor quality pictures in bright daylight? “This is one of the most asked questions. In this class you will understand the differences between different metering modes, learn how to judge the exposure by looking at the Histogram, and most importantly, understand White Balance and how it can affect your images in a huge way.

Session 4:

Creative uses for aperture and shutter, depth of field and motion. Selective focus/shallow depth of field workshop.

We can shoot as fast as 1/4000s (in some cameras even faster) or as slow as 30″ ( in the Bulb setting, we can expose as long as we wish!). There is wide open aperture and small opening aperture and some numbers in between. What are the uses for them? This is the purpose behind this class: to discuss the creativity of these settings and ways in which you can achieve a creative result.

Session 5 :

Composition guidelines

Rule of thirds, texture, color, point of view and seeing in shapes and forms, and Macro Photography guide lines. This session is all about the Art of photography. If you are interested in technology and love arts, come for this session as we are going to talk about arts and art in photography.

Session 6 :

Photo Field Trip

Three hours of outdoor photography with instructor. Practical exercises and refining composition and camera control. You have a chance to ask your instructor questions as you encounter different challenges on the field trip.

Session 7 :

Review field trip images, and Night Scene Photography guide lines.

We are going to look at our field trip photos and discuss areas where you could improve your photography. The second part of this session is for Night scene photography techniques and preparing you for your next session.

Session 8:
