Landscape Composition Tip

Tips on Landscape Composition

Why composition is very important in landscape photography.

A good photograph is an image which is exposed and composed correctly. We can control the exposure by using Shutter speed, Aperture and ISO. These factors are all about the brightness and contrast of the picture. In our Fall Outdoor Photography class, I am going to cover the basics of exposure, with special attention dedicated to landscape composition.

Why do you need to learn about landscape composition?

Almost all new cameras can give you an average light reading. I took the above photos with my smart phone with next to no control over the exposure. Composition is the second part of an important process of capturing beautiful photographs. In Fall Outdoor Photography Class  you will gain many techniques and tips for composing gorgeous landscape images.

Framing in landscape composition

One of the rules is called Framing. By using Framing in a landscape composition you effectively add depth (3rd dimension) to your images. Here is a fine example of the difference good framing vs bad framing can make.

Landscape Composition
Framing is one of the many rules in landscape composition. In above examples the photo the left has a bad framing and composition cuts the guide line as well as the main subject. The right image has a good framing.
