Making Photographs – Composition

As previously discussed, Ansel Adams believed that a photographer makes the photograph, not the camera. However, after learning the camera settings, a photographer needs to understand the basic rules of visual arts in general. This topic brings us to the Composition in photography.

How to Make Photographs Using Composition Rules

As much as the Exposure rules are robust, i.e. a photographer must always follow these rules, Composition rules are very flexible.

There are many Composition rules in photography, and as a photographer, you can apply as many of them as you like, or ignore or even break them if you wish. This flexibility makes the art of photography. Therefore, each artist has a unique taste or point of view.

In the picture below, the Exposure is correct; however, the Composition is a little off. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”22600″ img_size=”600×800″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Correct Exposure, Broken Composition Rule”][vc_column_text]As you can see, there is nothing wrong with the above photo. It is still very nice. However, it does not look complete. Maybe, that was the artist’s insight to leave us with an unfinished image to challenge our imagination. Therefore, it is next to impossible to judge a photograph just by Composition.
On the other hand, the image below has a perfect Exposure, and the artist applied Composition rules.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”22601″ img_size=”600×800″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Correct Exposure and Composition Rules”][vc_column_text]In the above photo, the Correct Exposure and the presence of the guidelines make this photo more pleasing. Thereby, you can just take a picture, or by following the Composition rules, you can make photographs.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
