Photo Editing Importance

The Importance of Photo Editing

Digital cameras have moved photography to the next level. Now a days we want sharper and more detailed photos, therefore many camera manufacturers come out with higher mega pixels every year. However, the higher mega pixels cannot satisfy us as there are many limitations for cameras to capture what our eyes are capable of seeing. Therefore, all avid photographers understand the importance of Digital Photo Editing.

Do you need to edit all the pictures?

Absolutely not! There are times, such as soft light or defused light of a cloudy day, that makes the photo perfect. The image below is a sample of ideal situation.

No Photo Editing Needed

Due to soft light there is no need for extra photo editing in this picture.

When Photo editing is Needed

There are many reasons for editing photos. However, in this article I just talk about the harsh light or rather Contrast-y situations.

Like the above photo, I used my iPhone to capture the image below. As a result of high contrast between sky and foreground, the image is not as pleasing as the actual scene was.

However, after a short photo editing in Lightroom, I made this picture presentable and appealing. See the edited photo below:

When should you consider Photo Editing?

Photo editing does not have a limitation. Generally speaking, all cameras have limitations, whether using a smartphone or top of the line DSLRs, cameras cannot record the highlights and shadows perfectly. Therefore, my first approach for photo editing is to correct this camera weakness.

Below is a photo that I used a pro DSLR and lens:

Nikon D500 and Nikkor 300 f4 lens

Although the light was perfect, it was not strong enough for the camera to capture the details on the feathers.

You have noticed that even a Pro digital camera and lens cannot justify the beauty of this scene. First of all, in Lightroom I adjusted the WHITES and BLACKS, then a little SATURATION.
