Effective Lightroom Workflow – Importing Photos
Generally speaking, photographers want to do organizing and post-processing as quickly and efficiently as possible. Therefore, the software that you pick is essential. By far, Lightroom is the best app for photographers, but it may not be as intuitive for many. Effective Lightroom Workflow unleashes the power of Lightroom.
In fact, “RawShooter” was the original software program that Adobe purchased it and developed Lightroom in that platform. I have been a “RawShooter” and Lightroom user for many years. In all these years, I was able to create an effective Lightroom workflow, which I teach in our Lightroom Training Program.
In Lightroom and Photoshop, you can do the same task in many different ways. However, an effective Lightroom workflow can save you lots of time. In this series of articles, I am going to share some of these effective Lightroom workflows. So, let’s get started with the first task;
Importing Pictures to Lightroom Library
The very first thing to use the Lightroom is to Import the photographs to Lightroom Library. With the new generation of digital cameras, we see an increase in megapixels. Consequently, the file size is getting larger and larger. In other words, it means that the internal hard drive gets full pretty quickly, regardless of how big hard drive you may have.
Lightroom probably is the only app that I know of that allows you to store images in different media. Therefore, you can save thousands of pictures in external hard drives without slowing down your computer. And Lightroom will keep track of the images for you in real-time.
By saving photos in a separate media, you not only make your computer works smoothly but also keep your precious pictures save. For instance, I have a 1TB internal hard capacity, but more than 2 TB worth of photographs. Hence, storing the images in a separate hard drive is my best option. Applying Presets or Keywords:
Lightroom offers options for applying presets and keywords during importing images. This feature is a massive time-saving for me. Then, the second tip on having an effective Lightroom workflow is using these features while importing images.
I always apply the lens correction to all of my photos, nevertheless. So, I created a preset for “Lens Correction,” and I set Lightroom to use this preset while importing images. This feature saves me tons of time!
Finally, I am in the habit of tagging or keywording all of my photographs. Therefore, this feature allows me to add the keywords before importing the images. Possibly, I can sum that Storing the pictures in an external hard drive, and the capability of Adding presets and Keywords to the images during the Import. These two features are part of my Effective Lightroom Workflow to share in this article.
