Lightroom Filter Bar

Useful Hotkey for Lightroom Filter Bar

Previously, I listed a few Lightroom hotkeys. One of those hotkeys was the use of the BACKSLASH “\” key in the Develop module. In this #ThursdayCameraTip, I look into the backslash key function and Lightroom Filter Bar in the Library module.

Lightroom Hotkey for Library Module

Real estate space on a monitor is critical in an editing workflow, especially on smaller monitors. Therefore, photographers close Lightroom tabs and menu bars whenever possible to allocate more monitor real estate to their workspace. One of the bars that we do not use that often is the “Filter Bar.” While working in Lightroom Library, you can press the Backslash “\” key to hide or show the Filter Bar. Hiding the Filter Bar provides more space for you.

What is Lightroom Filter Bar?

The Filter Bar is on the top of the main screen in the Library module. It accommodates all search criteria, such as TEXT, ATTRIBUTE, and METADATA.

At the top of the Library Module screen locates the Lightroom Filter Bar.

Lightroom Filter Bar is beneficial when you search for certain images. However, most of the time, it sits there idle and takes the screen real estate unnecessary. By hiding the Filter Bar, especially on smaller monitors, you free up some more space for your editing workflow. Therefore, pressing the “\” key hides the Filter Bar, and pressing again shows it.

There are many more Lightroom Shortcuts, and I will cover them in this series of articles.
