Tips on Starting a Photography Business
Have you ever thought of starting a photography business? Probably, your friends and family always adore your photos, and yet you are not sure of taking the first steps.
On the other hand, you may have heard that the photography business market is saturated and there is no room for newcomers! Do these sorts of statements give you cold feet?
Starting Photography Business
Firstly, let me tell you the facts. In Arts, there is no saturated market at all. Each artist is unique in one way or the other; therefore, there is always room for new ideas and talents in Arts in general, and photography in particular.
However, the market is saturated with “copy cats.” So, if you are a talented photographer, and you are not copying other photographers, I guarantee that you will find your niche in photography and begin building up your clientele.
A Prosperous Story of Starting Photography Business
Christine Doel is a successful Family Photographer. She is the owner and photographer at http://loveandchild.ca/.
Christine started her photography journey because of her love for photography. She took some of my public classes and private lessons.
From the very first day, I saw her talent and advised her to be herself and that not copying any other artists. Here is a letter that she wrote to me a few years ago.

I hope all is well. I know we have not seen each other in a while. If you remember, I just had my son and was expecting my daughter! Both are doing great.
I thought I should catch up and let you know how my photography is going. First off, I would like to say thank you. Your classes truly helped me get to where I want to be. As of last October, I decided to take it further by opening my doors to family and friends. I have a small home studio that I have started to do newborn photography and just started to shoot Family Outdoor sessions (I never imagined I would be doing that). I have continued to educate myself with editing and some online courses, but I’m always finding that you have given me the knowledge that sets me ahead of the class. I will always appreciate the time and effort you took to help me learn from scratch. Please take a look at some of my work, www.loveandchild.ca or @loveandchild.ca on Instagram. I still have a long way to go, but I am excited to show you what you have taught me. Thank you again!! As you can see in her letter, passionate in photography is not enough. You need to learn the techniques, and having an excellent mentor to walk you through the procedures of your new adventure.

Find your Niche
Before Starting a Photography Business, define your passion. Are you into Portrait Photography, or perhaps New Born is your genre? This identification allows you to target your Education. Photography is a vast area to explore. Start with styles that you are most interested in first.
Education
After identifying your genre, you need to focus on Education. Generally speaking, Photography consists of two parts, Technical knowledge and artistic view. For starting a photography business, you need both of them. Our photography classes and workshops are good starts. If you already know the basics and need to learn specific techniques, consider Private Lessons.
Education has two main sections, Camera Techniques and Post Processing. Post Processing is as vital as Camera techniques for Starting Photography Business.
