Ted’s Photo Tips: Using Rule of Thirds in Portraitures Photography

Rule Of Thirds has many applications in photography composition. In this article, I discuss the effect of using the Rule of thirds in portraitures.

Mainly, using Rule Of Thirds in photography compositions adds more dynamic to images. The same added dynamic applies to portraitures too. Let me explain it in more detail.

.

Reasons for Using Rule of Thirds in Portraitures

Freshman photographers put the model in the centre of the frame without paying attention to the model’s head’s negative space. Therefore, the result would be lots of wasted space at the top of the image.

A pro photographer uses the Rule Of Thirds in Portraitures to get the best use of the frame.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”26380″ img_size=”400×600″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Rule Of Thirds in Portraitures”][vc_single_image image=”26381″ img_size=”400×600″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Pro Approach for Rule Of Thirds in Portraitures”][vc_column_text]In the above photos, I showed how applying the Rule of Thirds in portraiture improves the picture.

Tips on Using Rule Of Thirds in Portraitures

The tips below give you suggestions on how to apply the rule of thirds in portraitures effortlessly.

Using Focus Lock:

In Single Focusing mode, You can half-press the shutter release button to focus on your model; keep holding the shutter button locks the focus. While holding the shutter button, recompose the image to apply the rule of thirds.

Using the Off-Centre Focusing Point :

The ability to select different focusing points is awesome. By selecting an off-centre focusing point, you force your camera to focuses on the model off-centre. Another advantage of this mode is that you can use the Dynamic Focus feature. Therefore, your camera keeps focusing on the model off-centre even if the model moves.
