Graduated ND Filter in Photography

Previously, I discussed ND filters and their effects on reducing the exposure. What if you want to darken part of the image? Graduated ND Filter is the one you need to apply the effect to part of the photo only.

What is a Graduated ND Filter?

Another great tool to add to your camera gear is a Graduated ND Filter, which starts with a dark density at the top, which gradually fades out towards the filter’s bottom.

Graduated ND Filters are handy when you want to mask the bright part of the scene (such as the sky in these examples), and they are available with different density choices.

Different Types of Graduated ND Filters:

Graduated ND filters come in a variety of densities from half a stop to 10 stops. If you shoot pictures in a very bright situation, you may need to use a darker filter. However, I found out that a six-stop graduated filter can be versatile.
