More Creativity by Learning Camera Settings

EXPOSURE COMPENSATION

Digital photography is full of joy, provided that you get the hidden features on digital cameras. By learning camera settings, you open up a new door to unleash your creativity.

One of the many hidden camera settings is Exposure Compensation, which I picked for this Wednesday Photo Tip.

Learning Camera Settings; Exposure Compensation

Generally speaking, the camera sets the exposure by using the built-in Light meter. However, many conditions can fool the camera. For instance, taking photos at the beaches or on snow scenes are the common ones. The light reflection is more potent in those conditions; therefore, your camera compensates for the intense sunlight, and the result will be an under-exposed subject. Sounds familiar?

Here is a simple solution for this common problem; Exposure Compensation!
Using the Exposure Compensation, you force the camera to shoot the photo brighter or darker than average exposure.
.
For instance, on a bright sunny day at the beach or snow scene, set the Exposure Compensation to +1, +1.5, or even +2 can result in an over-exposed surrounding but maintaining the correct exposure for your subject.
On the contrary, While taking pictures of sunset or sunrise, the dark foreground fools the camera to over-exposed the sky. Setting Exposure Compensation to -1, -1.5, or -2 makes the foreground darker, precisely what we want to, and keeps the saturated colours on the sky.
