Ted’s Lightroom Tips: LIGHTROOM SELECT SUBJECT MASK

1 MINUTE LIGHTROOM TIP

Lightroom Select Subject Tool

There are times that you have a beautiful photo, but the subject is either too dark or too bright!

Don’t panic. Lightroom’s new Masking tool allows you to fix the issue. In this video, I show you how to do it.

I wanted to use a photo, but the model was quite dark due to backlighting. So, I decided to fix it in Lightroom.

I didn’t want to brighten the entire image, resulting in clipping highlights in the background. Therefore, Masking was the best choice.

  • Open the picture in the Lightroom Develop module.
  • Select the MASK tool.
  • From the drop-down menu, click on SELECT SUBJECT.
  •  When Lightroom finishes the selection, adjust the exposure and edit the rest to your liking.
  • Close the Mask tool, and that is it!
