How Camera Orientation Changes the Composition

The Composition is a broad topic to discuss. However, camera orientation is something that many photographers agree about its importance.

Camera Orientation Tip

In this shot, I used the landscape as the camera orientation.

What is Camera Orientation?

There are two kinds of camera orientations, Vertical or Portrait, and Horizontal or Landscape. By simply rotating your camera and changing the direction, you can achieve different looks on the images.

We call the vertical orientation as “Portrait” not because it can only be used in portraitures, and the same for the landscape to use horizontal direction.

Using different camera orientations can change the overall composition. For instance, in the below pictures, you can see how a simple rotation of the camera changed the entire composition:

Portrait Orientation

Just by switching to portrait orientation, I got an entirely different image.

Wednesday Ted’s PhotoTip for you:

Next time when taking pictures, change the camera orientation and take another photo. You will be surprised how this little adjustment creates a significant effect to the images.
