Artistic Approach in Portrait Photography

As I discussed in previous articles, Portrait Photography has two main parts, Technical Aspects and the Artistic Approach. We looked at technical aspects as Camera Settings, Lens Selection, and Light Sources. In this article I am going to focus on Artistic Approach in Portrait Photography.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Artistic Approach in Portrait Photography” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:35|text_align:center|color:%23aa3300|line_height:1″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” css_animation=”fadeIn”][vc_column_text]

What is Artistic Approach

Artistic Approach or Art Methodology is how an artist sees or imagines the subject. Here is the definition from Wikipedia:

“Art methodology refers to a studied and constantly reassessed, questioned method within the arts, as opposed to a method merely applied (without thought). This process of studying the method and reassessing its effectiveness allows art to move on and change. It is not the thing itself but it is an essential part of the process.

An artist drawing, for instance, may choose to draw from what he or she observes in front of them, or from what they imagine or from what they already know about the subject. These 3 methods will, very probably, produce 3 very different pictures. A careful methodology would include examination of the materials and tools used and how a different type of canvas/brush/paper/pencil/rag/camera/chisel etc. would produce a different effect. The artist may also look at various effects achieved by starting in one part of a canvas first, or by working over the whole surface equally. An author may experiment with stream of consciousness writing, as opposed to naturalistic narrative, or a combination of styles.”[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”17484″ img_size=”400×600″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”slideInRight” title=”Sample of Portraiture Posing”][vc_column_text]

Why Artistic Approach is different in Portrait Photography

In Portrait Photography, a photographer not only has to observe and find the beauty of the subject, he or she also has to start communication, break the ice, get subjects involved, etc as well.

This makes portraiture photography separate from other types of photography. There are rules in all forms of photography. It is a good idea to learn the rules and apply them or break them. In these articles I will shed some lights on some popular rules which will help you improving your portrait photography skills.    [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”20528″ img_size=”600×400″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”slideInRight” title=”Breaking the Ice “][vc_column_text]Stay tuned for these articles and as always feel free to contact us if you have more questions.
