Set Your Camera For Sunrise Photography

I took this fantastic photo this morning from my balcony while drinking coffee.

Sunrise Photography Tips

These Sunrise photography tips help capturing the amazing moments.
These Sunrise photography tips help capturing the amazing moments.

Once in a while, mother nature amazes us with breathtaking light shows in sunrises or sunsets.

These tips help you capture these fabulous moments.

1- Shooting Fully Manual

Taking fantastic sunrise or sunset photos fully manual setting is effortless. All you need to do is point your camera to the sun, set the exposure, and recompose and shoot. Make sure that the ISO is NOT set to Auto ISO.

2- Shooting Semi-Auto

If you use the semi-auto settings (shutter priority or aperture priority) and/or Auto ISO, you need to lock the exposure while pointing your camera to the sun.

The easiest way to lock the exposure is to use the AEL button on your camera. Just press the AEL button, and your camera will lock the exposure for about 4 seconds, which allows you to recompose the frame.

3- Add More Saturation

If you shoot in JPG and don’t do post-processing (I suggest that you should do!), use the camera’s built-in colour enhancement.

Camera manufacturers use different terms for this setting. Canon uses “Picture Style,” and Nikon uses “Picture Control.” Switching from the Standard setting to VIVID or LANDSCAPE provides more vibrant colours.
