Quick Camera Tip: BULB SETTING

What is BULB Setting or B?

Most digital cameras have a wide range of shutter speeds, all the way from 1/4000sec down to 30 seconds!

But what if you want to shoot for longer than 30 seconds?

Here comes the BULB setting or B setting. When you set the camera to Bulb or B and press the shutter trigger and hold, the shutter opens and stays open as long as you hold down the shutter trigger.

Important Precautions for Using Bulb Setting

While shooting in Bulb mode, you need to consider these tips:

1- Measure the exposure by guessing or using a handheld light meter. The camera’s built-in light meter does not work.

2- You need to do the timing. For instance, if you want to shoot for 2 minutes, you need to count the time.

3- If you activate the “Long Exposure Noice Reduction” in your camera, remember that the camera needs to take a dark exposure, which takes the same amount of time. So, be patient!

There are many uses for Bulb setting, such as firework or astrophotography.
