Ted’s Photo Gear Review: GORILLAPOD

Gorillapod, a Versatile Tripod

A bulky and heavy tripod is a pain in the neck, especially for outdoor activities. Gorillapod by Joby offers a small and versatile tripod.

For this week’s #TedPhotoGearReview, I look into Gorillapod 3K mini tripod.

I purchased my Gorillapod a few years ago, and since then, it is always in my camera bag. The small size and lightweight make Gorillapod easy to pack in almost any camera bag or even in your pocket!

You can use this tripod as a small tripod or a selfie stick! Check the photos below:

There are times that you want to take photos from different and unusual angles. Thanks to the flexibility of Gorillapod, you can wrap it around almost anything steadily to capture the composition that you like.

The Gorillapod 3K is strong enough to hold the weight of your camera for up to 3kg. The flexible and bendable legs allow you to use this tripod on uneven surfaces or wrap the legs around a post or tree. I wrapped it around the door handle in the image below, and it holds the camera steady.

I found out that I use my Gorillapod more often in Macro photography. I wrapped it around a post to take a few macro pictures of bugs in the image below. I usually use a shutter trigger or self-timer to take pictures when capturing macro images to avoid camera shake.

By adding a smartphone holder, your Gorillapod will be an asset for your smartphone photography or videography. I used my smartphone to take videos in the images below.

Ted’s Photo Gear Review: MANFROTTO BEFREE TRIPOD

Ted’s Photo Gear Review: A New Section

Many sites review photography gears, some even in-depth and technical. However, there are increasing demands for easy-to-understand reviews. I have received many of those requests, and finally, I decided to add a new section to my daily posts.

In this new section, I review one item per week. These items range from lens filters to camera bodies. These reviews will be short, easy-to-understand and always on point.

.

Without further ado, Let’s get into my first review.

Photo Gear Review: Manfrotto BeFree Tripod

Manfrotto BeFree Tripod comes with a nice carrying case.

Photo Gear Review: Manfrotto BeFree Advanced Aluminum 4-Section Lever Leg Ball Head Kit

Tripod is one of those gears that photographers love and hate at the same time. We love tripods as they keep our cameras steady for long exposure pictures. And we hate them because they are heavy and take space to carry around!

.

Manfrotto is an Italian manufacturer, and Italian designers developed the perfect design to address the cumbersome issue. Here are some highlights:

1- BeFree is small and light-weighted, yet steady enough for an 8kg (about 17.5lb) load. It weighs only 1.6kg and measures 40cm folded.

2- The lock mechanism and the quick release plate function smoothly, which shows the quality of materials and design. I liked how effortlessly I unfolded the tripod and mounted my camera.

3- The Manfrotto ball head that comes in the kit is ideal for all beginner to intermediate photographers who want maximum performance and stability at all times – it is smooth and quick to adjust.
4- The quick release plate stays secure and locked in its place, which is a piece of mind.

Conclusion:

BeFree is an excellent medium-range tripod for travelling and active photography. Lightweight and small size make this tripod a trusty companion. I give this tripod a five-star rating for quality, manufacturing, ease of use, and stability.

.

It may look a bit pricy, but it is an excellent investment.  At the time of this article, LondonDrugs carries this tripod in stock, and it is on sale now.
