Learn Semi-Automatic Shooting

Ready to Leave Auto Mode? Learn Semi-Automatic Shooting the Easy Way

One of the most common things beginner photographers tell me is this:
“I want better photos, but manual mode feels intimidating.”

That’s exactly where semi-automatic shooting comes in.

Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority give you creative control without forcing you to manage everything at once. They’re the perfect bridge between Auto mode and full Manual, and they’re incredibly useful for everyday photography.

That’s why I’m running a Beginner Photography Workshop focused on semi-automatic shooting and practical skills at the end of March.

Why Semi-Automatic Modes Matter

Semi-automatic modes let you focus on what actually affects the look of your photo. Want blurry backgrounds for portraits? Aperture Priority helps you get there. Trying to freeze action or show motion blur? Shutter Priority makes it much easier.

Instead of guessing, you start making intentional choices.

How the Workshop Is Structured

This workshop is split into two sessions so you can learn, process, and then apply.

Friday evening (6:00–8:30 pm) is the classroom session. We’ll break down how exposure works, what the camera is doing behind the scenes, and how to choose the right settings without stress.

Saturday late morning (11:00 am–1:00 pm) is all about practice. We head outdoors and apply everything in real shooting situations, with guidance, feedback, and lots of time to experiment.

Who This Workshop Is For

  • New camera owners
  • Auto-mode shooters who want more control
  • Anyone who feels overwhelmed by camera settings
  • Hobby photographers who want consistent results

You don’t need fancy gear or prior experience. A basic camera and curiosity are more than enough.

If you’ve been waiting for a comfortable next step in your photography journey, this workshop is designed exactly for that.
