Photographing the Stars (not the ones from Hollywood)
The night sky has always been a fascinating mystery. Since we first started walking the earth, humans have looked to the heavens with awe and amazement, admiring the beauty of the stars at night.
However, capturing the beauty of the Night Sky and Milky Way on a camera requires special techniques that we aim to teach you.
We invite you to join Ted Karlsalr of Omnilargess Photography Classes and Brett Michaud Photography as they share their expertise in Night Sky Photography with you.
What is a Night Sky Photography Tour?
The Night Sky Photography Tour is a three-hour field workshop aimed at capturing photos of stars and the Milky Way and will be conducted at Abbotsford, BC’s Dark Sky Park. Here we will teach you all the techniques you need to capture the beauty of a starry night anytime, anywhere.
What you will learn:
During the nighttime session:
1- Camera settings for capturing night sky images ( aperture, shutter speed, ISO.)
2- Focusing at night.
3- Find the Milky Way with the phone app, using PhotoPills.
4- Determine the best time of day/year to photograph the night sky.
5- Camera settings for light painting foreground subjects.
6- How to light paint foreground subjects.
During the optional editing session in our studio
7- How to edit night sky images in Lightroom and Photoshop.
8- Combining light-painted foregrounds with night sky images in Lightroom and Photoshop.
9- How to deal with noisy images created by high ISO settings.
10- New Tips and tricks to editing night sky images in post.
Dates:
As nightscape photography requires a cloudless night and no moon in the sky, we have set some possible dates for this workshop.

Optional Add On Workshop:
Night Sky images require special treatment in post-processing to bring out the depth and richness of colours invisible to the naked eye. To get the most out of your evening, we encourage you to pick up your ticket for our Night Sky Editing Session, hosted one week after the tour, to learn how to enhance your pictures using Lightroom or Photoshop. We will set the date and time for this optional workshop right after the event.

Depending on the weather conditions, we could be going out on any one of these nights. We will watch the weather, and when the forecast looks great, we will notify you the day before whether the workshop is on for the following day.
Please note that we will only be going out on one of these evenings unless demand is so great that we must teach on two nights to keep the numbers manageable, so you all get the attention you deserve.
It would be best to keep your calendar clear for all these days.
The workshop duration is three hours, including half an hour for setting up your camera and half an hour for packing them up, so be prepared for two hours of photography fun!
