Ted’s Lightroom Tips: LIGHTROOM PRECISE SHARPENING

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Use Lightroom Masking for Precise Sharpening

Sharpening a photo needs lots of safeguards. You don’t want to overdo and apply too much sharpening. On the other note, you may want to use the sharpness on specific parts of an image. For instance, you may want to sharpen the eyes, eyebrows and lips in a portrait without enhancing the skin details.

1 MINUTE LIGHTROOM TIP

Lightroom Sharpening Mask makes it possible to visualize and control the sharpen areas. Here is how:

  • Open the picture in Develop Module.
  • Go to the DETAIL tab, and start adjusting the sharpness, detail and radius to your liking.
  • Hold down the OPTION/ALT key while clicking on the MASKING slider. The whole image turns to white, which indicates that the sharpness applies to the entire picture.
  • Moving the masking slider, part of the image turns black, which means the black part of the photo does not get any sharpness.
  • There you have it! Adjust the slider to keep the white mask on the areas that you want to sharpen
