Lightroom or Photoshop

Do you need Lightroom or Photoshop

Previously, I discussed the Raw, Jpg, and Tiff formats. You can edit all these formats in Lightroom or Photoshop. However, which of these two programs do you really need?

In this series of articles, I am going to explain some of the significant differences between these popular applications.

 Lightroom or Photoshop; or Both?

Firstly, let’s discuss the power of each software, then look into their differences.

Lightroom

Lightroom is a program for organizing and editing digital photographs. It is a Catalog Base program. Therefore, the original images stay intact, no matter how many times you manipulate them. Thus, Lightroom works perfectly for photographers with an extensive library of pictures and want to keep the original images. In other words, Lightroom is a Non-Destructive application. Previously, I explained many of the Lightroom advantages in this article.

Short story, the Lightroom is a non-destructive software, it provides fast and easy means to Organize, Rate, Search, and Filter the picture library. However, for a subtle retouching or photo manipulation, you need a different program.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”23777″ img_size=”600×600″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Lightroom Organizing Power”][vc_column_text]

Photoshop

Generally speaking, Photoshop has the same editing tools as Lightroom has, but lack in organizing tools. Therefore, Photoshop users need to use the Bridge to organize the photos. Although the Bridge is free and shipped with Photoshop, it is a pain to work in two programs to achieve the same result as one application (Lightroom) can do it.

On the other hand, Photoshop applies the changes directly into the photos, unless you save the final picture with a different name. Therefore, if you need multiple versions of the same image, you need to keep several copies of the same photo. It means that these copies use up your disk space very quickly. This is one of the biggest cons of Photoshop.

However, Photoshop has its exclusive perks. For instance, adding or subtracting an object from a photo, or combining multiple images or shapes to create a composite image, is just a few to mention of the Photoshop power.

In conclusion, a photographer needs both programs to save time and maintain the picture quality. I will discuss more in Lightroom or Photoshop. Stay tuned for the next article.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”23960″ img_size=”600×600″ add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” onclick=”link_image” css_animation=”fadeIn” title=”Photoshop Power”][vc_column_text]Our next Lightroom Training Program starts November 4th, 2020.
