Digital Camera class for beginners

Friday Photo Tip: UNDERSTANDING APERTURE

Understanding The Aperture in Photography for Beginners

Let’s take a look at a definition of Aperture from Wikipedia:

“In optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels….”

It looks pretty complicated, doesn’t it?

Easy Way to Understand the Aperture

It is good to know all these complicated scientific terms as photographers, but they don’t help us take better photos. My photography classes simplify all these terms to real-life uses of the camera’s settings. So stick with me, and I’ll show you a way to understand the Aperture quite easily and learn how to use the Aperture not only to control the light (Exposure) but also the creative uses of Aperture.

Practical Uses of Aperture

Le’s get to the practical uses of Aperture in photography rather than the scientific explanations. In general terms, and for all types of photography, the Aperture is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens, which can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film or digital sensor. The size of the Aperture is measured in f-stops. The lower the number (f-stop), the larger opening, which allows more light to pass through; the higher the f-stop, the narrower the opening, with less light coming through the lens.

How/where do I change the Aperture setting?

In modern digital cameras, you can control the Aperture’s f-stops through the camera body. If you set your camera to Aperture Priority (A or AV), you set the f-stop using the main command dial, and your camera adjusts the shutter speed accordingly.

Photography Tips: FALL PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

Set Your Camera For Fall Colours

Autumn is here, and Mother Nature shows us striking colours. These camera setting Tips help you capture the magnificent fall colours.

1- Use Aperture Priority

In Landscape Photography, if you shoot semi-automatic, use Aperture Priority to expand the focusing range.

2- Spot Metering

You can target a specific colour and brightness by using Spot metering.

3- Creat Saturated Colours

You can record more saturated colours in your digital camera by tweaking your camera setting.

Camera manufacturers use different terms for this setting. Canon uses “Picture Style,” and Nikon uses “picture Control.” Switching from the Standard setting to VIVID or LANDSCAPE provides more vibrant colours.

Do you want to learn more?

There are many simple tweaking that can change pictures immensely. Beginners Photography Bootcamp covers many more skills.

Our next program starts on February 2, 2023. It is a small group, and tickets are selling fast.

Quick Camera Tip: STEER CAMERA CORRECTLY

Steering Your Camera Correctly Results in Sharper Photos

There are always many little things that have significant impacts if we handle them correctly.

Holding a camera is one of them. At first glance, it may not have any importance, but I can assure you that you will notice the outcome.

In these photos, I show how to hold your camera correctly.

By keeping the camera close to your body and distributing the weight on your left palm, you can avoid camera shake. Therefore, you get sharper pictures, especially in low-light conditions.

Quick Camera Tip: SAVE THE BATTERY

How to Save the Battery Charge

There are things that you can do to save the battery charge. In this post, I discuss a few popular ones.

Simple Tips to Save the Battery Charge

New rechargeable batteries are simply excellent. However, following these tips, your battery maintains the charge longer.

Save the Battery

Camera Battery Health
By taking a few simple steps, you can increase the camera's battery health.

1- If you use the camera in an event and take photos frequently, do not turn on and off your camera. Let your camera goes to STANDBY (SLEEP) mode instead.
Turning on and off the camera uses more battery! Especially the dust removing function in new digital cameras drains the battery faster.

2- in cold weather, keep the battery warm by putting it in your jacket pocket. Having an extra battery allows you to keep one battery inside the camera and one in your pocket.

3- Using Back Button for focusing does not engage the Image stabilizing system. Therefore, you save quite a bit on the battery charge. For more on Back button focusing, click HERE.

Testimony Tuesday: PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

Photography Guidelines For New Photographers

As a new photographer, all you need is excellent photography guidelines to capture artistic images.

Books and videos are good assets after in-person training.

Omnilargess Photography Classes assist many new photographers in achieving their passion of being an artist.

Rachel Vandevert found her artistic talent in photography after taking our Fall Bootcamp. Here is her testimony:

“I was just looking to learn some basics of what each camera setting did on my camera and also the basics of how to take a good picture, I definitely recommend this class as a starting point for if your looking to get into photography it’s a good mixture of sitting and listening to him talk about each setting but also giving you plenty of opportunity to actually go out and practice too. I would recommend it to anyone in the area to take this class. I also loved that it was a small class so I didn’t feel like I was lost in a big group of students! Ted is very knowledgeable and professional and friendly! I will definitely consider taking more classes with him in the future!”
