Sunsets are beautiful! But photographs of sunsets can be, well, a little boring on their own.

Brett’s Lightpainting Photography Tip
By placing an interesting subject in the foreground, you can add some interest to your image and make your sunset photo really stand out.
But be warned! Achieving the correct exposure can be extremely challenging, not to mention frustrating.
Expose for the subject, and the sunset is blown out. Expose for the sunset and the subject is nothing more than a black silhouette.
Fortunately, overcoming this obstacle is easy with a small light source. Even the light on your cell phone will do the trick.
This image, taken on my recent trip to Hawaii, was created by lighting the totems with a small light source placed on each side of the totems. It effectively overcomes the backlighting issues and makes for a more exciting image.
